Burnt Church Distillery: The Spirit of The Low Country

3/24/2021

Stolzle is always proud to partner with a new customer. But, every once in a while, we have the very pleasurable opportunity to work with people like the team at the just-opened Burnt Church Distillery in Bluffton, South Carolina where it all means so much more.

This team, led by co-founders Billy and Sean Watterson, started with a vision to invest and make apositive difference in their community and to honor the history of the area. And, since construction on the distillery began in May of 2019, it has truly been a labor of love, honoring past and a commitment to celebrating the present in that part of South Carolina’s Low Country.
“Burnt Church Distillery and its founders, Sean and Billy Watterson, are incredibly proud to call Bluffton, S.C. home. Burnt Church Distillery, inspired by the mystery of Burnt Church Road, will showcase the rich culture of Bluffton and the Lowcountry. The vibe of Bluffton is contagious. It’s our hope that we can capture this “state of mind” through our architectural interpretation, displays of historical research and colorful stories associated with our brands of whiskey, vodka, gin and moonshine. We are the ‘Spirit of the Lowcountry,”
owner Billy Watterson was quoted back in 2019.

Fast forward to their recent official opening, attended by over 2000 people and the Governor of South Carolina, along with other local officials.

“We are exporting South Carolina’s culture, flavor and history – one bottle at a time,” Watterson was quoted at the opening of the 25,000 square foot distillery.

It’s that larger vision to tell the story of the region and give back to the community that inspires us at Stolzle and makes us so thrilled to be partnered with the Burnt Church Distillery. With authentic low country spirits bottled with names like Bluffton Whiskey, Anita’s Choice Bourbon, Devil’s Elbow Gin, Sippin’ Saint Moonshine and more, the story of local heritage continues to be reinforced. This in combination with the specific glass for the specific spirit that Stolzle offers makes for a perfect synergy between the two companies. Plus, keeping with our #StolzleForLife mantra - heritage and great storytelling is something that we at Stolzle always love being a part of.
“When the opportunity arose to choose glassware available for purchase at Burnt Church Distillery in Bluffton, South Carolina, we knew ordinary was not going to cut it. For a $13M building rich in history and architecture, we needed a quality product that would be representative of the brand, aligning with the quality and experience we strive to provide our guests. In essence, we were in search of an exclusive product to create an inclusive experience,” says Katherine Reeves, Executive Assistant at Watterson Brands.

“After seeing the Stolzle’s Olympia line of gorgeous stemware and ordering in samples, we had a feeling we had found it. In addition to the look of the glass, we were also drawn to its fluid design and stem. It is truly a piece of art. Research into Stolzle, its history, and deep roots in the art of glassmaking further solidified our choice. Since then, the customer service and communication from Mark Roland, Vice President of Sales and Marketing, has been top notch.”

Mark states that when discussing Stolzle’s products with Katherine she was very focused and knew exactly what she wanted for the Distillery.
Reeves, who also serves as Brand Ambassador for Burnt Church’s non-alcoholic spirit Amethyst, continued,
“To put it simply, their combination of exclusive quality products with unmatched customer service is why Burnt Church Distillery is pleased to offer Stolzle glassware in our Mercantile.”

Another result of the commitment of the founders is the very positive local economic impact of Burnt Church Distillery. This new destination distillery is providing 40 full-time and 20 part time jobs. Inside, the walls of the tasting room are lined with pieces from local artist Randall Chambers and the distillery is giving back, donating 50 cents of every purchase to the Low Country Legacy Fund.

The relationship that has begun with Burnt Church Distillery epitomizes the long-term relationship that Stolzle strives for with all of those who use our products.

Matching our passion for producing high quality, high performance glassware, that is then backed up by an equally strong passion for great customer service and communication - all resulting in long-term, lifetime relationships with great individuals and organizations.
